A couple of months ago I was wondering why we hadn't heard much from Kanan Makiya recently, only to comment that a couple of days later he was interviewed on the radio. He didn't seem very happy on the radio and as this article notes (hat tip to Matthew Yglesias) in today's Washington Post, it should come as no surprise. Just read the entire article.
Makiya was probably one of the most if not the most compelling, articulate and honorable figures in the Iraqi exile community. I have little doubt in a debate that he would make quick work of me. I recommend Lawrence Weschler's compelling Calamities of Exile to find out more about Makiya's story.
As for Jerry Bremer, I'm sure he sleeps better now that he's out of Iraq. I just wonder how he looks in the mirror and shaves that deceitful, mendacious face of his.

Kanan Makiya did an interview with the BBC in January. It seems he is no heading the government Memory foundation. Bremer may have suceeded in currying favor with the State Depatment but at the end of the day, only exiles like Makiya would have any interest in running something like that. Hence it came down to giv Makiya the job or the money wouldn't get spent. It lacks the independence that Makiya's origional foundation had tho.
