Shut Up, Bruce
Speaking of Colombia, why is it that when the right wing criticizes Hollywood activists, they somehow ignore those on their side of the political aisle. Here's a case in point:
Andres Pastrana, the country's ambassador in Washington, scolded actor Bruce Willis on Friday for suggesting that the United States should consider invading Colombia as part of its war on drugs.
At a media event in New York to promote his new film, "16 Blocks," Willis said the United States should weigh "going to Colombia and doing whatever it takes to end the cocaine trade."
[...]
In a harshly worded letter made public, Pastrana told the outspoken actor that the source of the lucrative cocaine trade was an "enormous appetite for drugs, in particular in the United States and Europe."
That also includes Willis' ex-wife who used to have such an appetite. No one suffers more for this appetite than Colombians. No one.
If Willis knew anything about the conflict in Colombia, he'd know that. He'd know that the appetite for cocaine in North America and Europe has fueled a vicious insurgency and counterinsurgency. He'd know that the decent, honest citizens of Colombia pay the price for this.
Shame on him. He should take advantage of Ambassador Pastrana's offer and see for himself.
