It appears that it's all over for Andres Lopez Manuel Obrador's presidential bid in Mexico. While I believe that there should have been a complete recount, it's not going to happen and the limited recount appears to be free of widespread fraud.
As painful as it may be, AMLO needs to become the leader of the loyal opposition. One thing that he could do in that capacity is push for a change in the law that calls for a 50% threshhold to be reached in order to avoid a runoff in presidential elections in Mexico. Felipe Calderon may soon have the keys to Los Pinos, but he doesn't have a mandate.

Sadly, we must agree with you. We would have liked to see a full recount too. But at this point, conceding and building a strong oppositional party for the next election seems like the better part of valor. But then, we're just gringos, living here on the good graces of the Mexican government, and we have no say (and don't want one). It remains to be seen how it will be dealt with. The Mexican stock market seems to be saying that it will all be over soon and life will soon be back to normal.
Vamos a ver!
