Empty-Headed Whores

I read in comments by "jcummings" at Marc Cooper's blog that  Commie-Red Diaper Baby, turned  Republican-Red Depends Blatherer, David Horowitz  has deemed the Poor Old Misunderstood White Guy Agony of schlock-jock Don Imus  a "lynching" - now that the unkempt, trash talker has been suspended  for two whole weeks from his cushy gig in the wake of protests against his calling the female athletes of Rutgers U. "nappy-headed hos."    According to this crackpot Horowitz, "There is clearly no bigger threat to free speech in this country" than Imus' critics.

About a year and a half ago, Horowitz posted on his website pictures of Ted Kennedy and John Kerry above the following alleged "quote from Abraham Lincoln":
"Congressmen who willingly take actions during wartime that damage morale and undermine the military are saboteurs and should be arrested, exiled, or hanged."  ( Of course, it turns out that this Lincoln "quote" was a fabrication that had it's origins in, I believe, the ranting of some columnist for cult leader Sun Myung Moon's pro-GOP "Washington Times.")

So we've got a wacko who openly calls for the hanging of U.S. Senators for their  criticism of a war policy that has itself damaged our morale and undermined our military - not to mention undermining our national security - complaining  that trash-talking Don Imus is being "lynched". And  Imus' critics are the country's "biggest threats to free speech."

This could all be dismissed as the ravings of a lunatic, but when I was "fact-checking" this on Horowitz website, I also ran across the following:

The David Horowitz Freedom Center presents an “Evening of Wit and Provocation” with Christopher Hitchens on May 1st in New York City. Mr. Hitchens will be interviewed by Peter Collier with David Horowitz joining in the Q & A session.

The event cost is $250 per person. Sponsorships are available and include front row tables of 10 for $4,000 and seating at Mr. Hitchens table at $5,000 per person.

There's obviously a good market in being a total lunatic. And as proved by both Imus - with well-mannered   "moderates" among the punditry like Evan Thomas and Tom Oliphant defending him - and Horowitz, with an "intellectual" pal like Hitchens joining him to bilk the credulous - there's apparently nothing one can do in certain circles that is considered beyond the pale.  The next time someone from "respectable" journalistic circles criticizes bloggers as shrill or lifts something profane or vicious from their comments threads to prove that the amateurs and upstarts are out of control, excuse me if I Laugh Out Loud.

Comments

At one time, Hitchens (rightly) ridiculed people like Horowitz. I remember reading something of his from way back around 1987 or 1988 about a so-called "Second Thoughts" conference sponsored by that yahoo.

He has since become what he used to make fun of.
