Great post. The bit at the end ... yes, it's perhaps a little worrisome that Evo has become the new "darling" of a certain political movement. Worrisome, because it diminishes his own agency at the expense of other values (Fidel, Chavez, etc). What will happen to Evo when he's no longer "useful" to those other values?

If Morales is going to put forth the ideas of a constituent assembly, referenda, free and open elections and fair representation as intrinsic to good government, why does he support a man who has denied his citizens those same things while imprisoning them for the non-violent expression of their beliefs.

Uh, maybe --just maybe-- Morales praises Castro because Cubans are assisting en masse with Bolivia's health care and literacy campaigns.

Rule #1 for an extremely poor developing country like Bolivia: You don't look a gift horse in the mouth. If you don't understand that, then you have no business counseling statesmen in the developing world about whom they should or shouldn't befriend.

Nelson Mandela has also heaped praise upon Castro because it just so happens that Cuba did more to combat African apartheid than Western Europe and the United States combined. Given the relevant history, I fail to see how some yuppy blogger like yourself is in any position to judge leaders like Mandela and Morales for their friendships with Castro.

Given that you obviously have no frigging idea what Cuban assistance has meant for poor countries like Bolivia and South Africa, you really have no business passing judgement about their governments' relations with Cuba.

Justin,

Can't control yourself from hurling insults. You're banned again. Go defecate on someone else's site.

Evidently a new IP address hasn't improved your behavior.
